Our Artists
We are a mom & son team working from our home studio in London, UK.
Che-Lai Clay Lab is established to present the works created based on our idea and belief. Clay is our language to communicate with the world. We use its colours and textures to express the beauty of nature and our philosophies.
Our Artists
As a child, I have always liked to play in the field, mixing soil and rain water to make little clay figures and tiny pots and cups. Clay gave me the simplest and purest of pleasure as a child. As an adult, I like to walk in the forest and look at all life forms microscopically. I am fascinated by the strength of nature.
Clay is the breeding ground to all lives on earth. It offers me great comfort and safety every time when I touch it. As an artist, I like to express my fascination and gratitude through clay. I love to play and mimic natural forms, textures, colours, organic shapes presented by the nature.
Clay made me understand one can be humble as well as powerful. As a person who like to think and think deep, clay has been my tools to communicate my perspective and philosophy in life. Clay has taught me to be more accepting, to be appreciative, to embrace imperfections and to love the little flaws in life. Clay makes me calm and to appreciate the tiniest things life has to offer.
Clay has lots of stories to tell, and I am one of many storytellers.
Similar to my mom, I also developed my passion and love in ceramics as a teenager. At a young age, I loved playing around in the studio and I used to sit in it for hours playing with clays.
Natural objects and their textures have always fascinated me. After becoming more aware of the environmental crisis we are facing, I use ceramics to express my concerns and my appreciation in the beauty of nature to remind people it is everyone's responsibility to preserve and to protect the nature around us.
The philosophy of Daoism inspires many of our creations that reflect the three main principles: simplicity, embracing imperfection and living in harmony with nature.
Our mission is to re-introduce the life style in the Song dynasty of China over one thousand years ago and to bring awareness to preserve and to protect the nature around us.
